Anti-Aging DIY Vitamin C Face Mask
One of the best natural ways to get rid of wrinkles and also prevent them is to use vitamin C. Eating or taking a vitamin C supplement can help. But, for fantastic results with your anti-aging regime, it works great if you apply it topically to the areas you would like, to get rid of the wrinkles. That's why I use this DIY vitamin C face mask daily to help combat wrinkles and increase collagen production to help my acne scars too.

Vitamin C has been proven to be one of the greatest anti-aging ingredients! Using this DIY vitamin C face mask will help remove wrinkles and prevent new ones.

There is one form of vitamin C in particular that has been found to be the most effective for its anti-aging properties and that is L-ascorbic acid.
When I first read about using vitamin C and how effective it was, I wanted to go out and buy liquid vitamin C to apply to my skin. However, after some research, I learned that vitamin C becomes oxidized in liquid form when exposed to air pretty quickly. In just weeks it can be less potent and less effective than it was when the vitamin C mixture was prepared.

This is because the L-ascrobic acid form of vitamin C, is difficult to stabilize and it can quickly lose its potent antioxidant properties when it becomes oxidized.

So, the best thing you can do is to make your own DIY vitamin C face mask and apply it the day you make it or at least within a few weeks of making it. The vitamin C will be most potent and most effective this way. You want the vitamin C to be potent and penetrate the pores to increase collagen production in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and to prevent new wrinkles from forming.

Benefits of Vitamin C Face Masks for Anti-Aging:

  • Reduce Wrinkles and Fine Lines – Vitamin C has powerful anti-aging properties to combat wrinkles. Applying it topically has been used in dermatology to prevent and treat signs of aging and photoaging (from sun exposure).
  • Increase Collagen Production in Your Skin
  • Firm and Plump Skin
  • Reduce Effects of Sun Exposure and Sun Damage
  • Reduce Hyperpigmentation

Vitamin C Increases Collagen Production to Combat Wrinkles:

L-ascorbic acid has been proven to increase collagen production in the skin when applied topically. You can also get increased collagen production by taking a vitamin C supplement as well.

Increasing collagen production is essential for reducing wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming. It is produced in the skin's deep layers plumping the skin and firming it to eliminate wrinkles and leave your skin looking younger. As we age, collagen production naturally decreases resulting in wrinkles, so by boosting collagen production you can help prevent skin aging.

How this Anti-aging Vitamin C Face Mask Works:

L-ascorbic acid is the primary ingredient for anti-aging as it helps with sun damage and builds collagen and elastin. The purpose of the aloe vera is to make it adhere to your skin for optimal absorption.

Why You Should Use Powdered Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid):

When you buy vitamin C to make a face mask make sure you get the L-ascorbic acid form as it is the only one that has been proven effective for the treatment of wrinkles. L-ascorbic acid is stable in powdered form and by creating a vitamin C face mask yourself; you are using L-ascorbic acid when it is most potent.

Products and mixtures with vitamin C that have been sitting on a shelf in a store for several months are not nearly as effective.
Most store bought products and serums with vitamin C have been found to be unstable and oxidized as they are exposed to light and air.
You want the vitamin C to be most potent in order to get the best anti-aging effects.

Can You Use the Face Mask without a Cotton Sheet Face Mask?

Absolutely! You can just apply the mixture directly to your skin without the cotton sheet mask. However, it dries on your skin more quickly and may not penetrate the dermis for as long of a time period. By using the cotton sheet mask, it locks in the ingredients to increase your skin's absorption. These are the cotton sheet masks I use. I bought a pack of 100 for only $7.

Why Use Aloe Vera?

Aloe vera has a low pH of 4.5, which is excellent for the purpose of this vitamin C face mask. Vitamin C remains stable in low pH environments.

Anti-Aging DIY Vitamin C Face Mask:

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup Aloe Vera gel
  • 1 teaspoon L-Ascorbic acid powder
  • 1 Cotton sheet mask (you can use it without one though, it just helps lock in the ingredients and increases your skin's absorption)

Directions:

1. Put the aloe vera gel in a dish and add the L-ascorbic acid powder.
2. Stir well until all the powder is dissolved and it's thoroughly mixed.
3. Take one of the cotton sheet masks and dip it in the mixture, make sure to fully saturate it.
4. Place it on your face and smooth it out a little, insuring it is pressed against your skin on all areas.
5. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.
6. Take the mask off and rinse with warm water. Pat dry with a dry wash cloth.

How Often Should You Use this Face Mask?

According to the research on vitamin C, you should apply it topically every day in order to increase collagen production and achieve maximum anti-aging benefits. So I use this DIY vitamin C face mask at least once a day. I usually put it on in the morning and leave it on while making breakfast. For photoprotection, it is recommended to apply vitamin C topically every 8 hours.
